Tips, Tricks & How Tos

Some little Tips, Tricks and How To's:

Installation:

  • Use the bricklayer method of installing your dreadlocks.
  • Square size should range between 1 - 1.5 inches. Tailor to your size head and amount you are installing.
  • Use two small rubber bands per braid install. Elastics break easily so having a back up will help keep your extensions in place.

Washing your dreadlocks:

  • I recommend using an organic shampoo bar. No need for conditioner.
  • Wash scalp, massage shampoo in and let suds run down dreadlock extensions.
  • Let sit for a few minutes, rinse thoroughly.
  • Repeat if you have build up.

Daily Care:

  • For NEW Wavys, I recommend misting with water and separating twice daily. Follow up with a light oil on your scalp and to help with any frizziness, this will also help with the maturity process. Oils will reduce the integrity of your rubberbands so be aware you may need to replace more often.
  • For brushable soft ends, separate and brush with a detangle brush.
  • For natural ends, leave alone and let them dread naturally.

Sleeping:

  • I recommend sleeping with a high pony or silk bonnet to keep wavy dreads from frizzing initially. Once matured you can just wear a high pony.
  • I recommend a silk pillowcase initially and long term.

Detoxing Your Dreadlock Extensions:

  • Between installations, you'll want to detox your extensions to remove build up and refresh.
  • 1 cup ACV (Apple Cider Vinegar)
  • Bowl of luke warm water
  • Soak for 1 + hours
  • Rinse thoroughly
  • Hang to dry or lay flat
